Constructed in 9th century its one of the earliest round towers in Ireland. It is about 23m high and close to 5.5 m diameter what makes the tower look short and squat. It has round headed doorway 4m above ground, and flat and gable headed windows. The adjoining church was built in 17th century on the site of early christian Turlough Abbey founded by St Patrick around 441 and destroyed by Cromwellian forces in 1635.
